A Word of Caution to Maendeleo Chap Chap: Respect Begets Respect – Drop the Hate
The political landscape, especially as we look towards future contests, demands sobriety, decency, and mutual respect. This is a message aimed directly at the Maendeleo Chap Chap (MCC) party and its leadership, particularly in light of what appears to be a concerted effort to undermine and engage in politics of hatred and chest-thumping.
Maendeleo ChapChap Leaders at Mumbuni NorthFor too long, the
Honourable Engineer Kawaya has extended a hand of respect and understanding to
his colleagues and perceived partners, including the wing of MCC led by former
Governor Alfred Mutua. That respect, however, seems to have been met not with
reciprocation, but with ill-schemes and calculated efforts to belittle the
outright doyen of Kamba politics, Hon. Eng. Kawaya.
Let us be unequivocally
clear: while we respect every party's right to campaign and express their
views—a fundamental tenet of democracy—we must insist on sobriety and decency
in political discourse. The current trajectory of animosity and targeted
attacks is not only unbecoming but actively harms the political environment we
all share.
We wish to issue a stern
reminder to the Maendeleo Chap Chap brigade: Do not confuse Hon. Kawaya's
decency, restraint, and respect for weakness.
A decent politician is
one who chooses the high road, prioritizing development and the well-being of
the people over petty squabbles. But every politician has a breaking point, and
every reserved strength can be unleashed.
If called upon to defend
the interests of the people and counter malicious politics, the honourable
member has the capacity to "draw claws, devour, maim, and inject."
This is not a threat, but a statement of truth about the necessary tools
available in the rough-and-tumble of politics. It is a necessary caution
against provocation.
There is an old adage
that states: "People in glass houses should never throw stones."
The MCC elements who are
currently throwing stones of hatred and undermining a colleague must tread
carefully. There are numerous uncomfortable truths that can be brought to the
fore. We are not naïve; we are fully awake to the memories and records of the
past decade.
The pain, the alleged
atrocities, and the unaddressed concerns that plagued the people of Machakos
during the previous administration are not forgotten. We are currently focused
on delivering the Mumbuni North seat under the UDA banner and disseminating the
government's development agenda across the region. However, if the politics of
hatred persist, we will be forced to remind our people of these past truths
when the time comes.
The politics of
chest-thumping, name-calling, and baseless animosity is a recipe for a toxic
environment and, ultimately, a political downfall. Respect begets respect. We
urge Maendeleo Chap Chap to choose the path of decorum before the political
temperature rises to a point of no return. The choice is yours. Our focus, for
now, remains fixed on development, but our eyes are open.
