Emancipating Ukambani: Hon. Kawaya Takes the Boda-Boda Empowerment Call to Kalonzo's Doorstep
In a powerful display of resolve and a clear signal of the shifting political landscape in Ukambani, Hon. Vincent Kawaya, the UDA National Organizing Secretary and Mwala MP, brought his celebrated boda-boda empowerment program to the very heart of Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka's political base at the Yatta-National Youth Service grounds. This well-attended meeting, drawing thousands of enthusiastic boda-boda riders from every corner of Yatta Constituency, was more than just a rally; it was a statement of intent, a clarion call for the people of Ukambani to break free from the chains of "politics of impoverishment and cluelessness."
Hon Kawaya addressing Boda-Boda Riders at NYS ground-YattaHon. Kawaya, a man known
for his direct and pragmatic approach to leadership, reiterated his firm belief
that the Kamba community must now shun the tired and unproductive politics of
opposition. He passionately urged the people to embrace the transformative
agenda of President William Ruto's government, which he said is singularly
focused on lifting the downtrodden masses from poverty into a life of dignity
and better living standards. Kawaya's message resonated deeply with the riders,
who represent a vital economic engine in the region and are keen to see
tangible improvements in their lives.
In a bold move that
addressed the current political discourse head-on, Kawaya did not shy away from
calling out the recently impeached former Deputy President, Rigathi Gachagua.
He sternly cautioned the Kamba people against Gachagua's "Cousin"
narrative, a rhetoric he described as a "tired and connish rhetoric meant
to lure our people into a tribal snare." Kawaya's words cut through the
noise, reminding the crowd of Gachagua's past dismissiveness toward the Kamba
community. "He defined Kambas as insignificant voters in Kenya's political
matrix," Kawaya recalled, further reminding them that Gachagua had once
termed Kambas as "non-shareholders" in the political arena. The Mwala
MP's rhetorical question, "How come Gachagua has suddenly become too
clever and realized that we are his cousins?", was met with thunderous
applause, highlighting the audience's appreciation for his honesty and
historical context.
The meeting was a show of
force for the UDA-aligned leaders in the region. Hon. Nimrod Mbai-the MP for
Kitui East, underscored the political division in Ukambani, stating, "In
Ukambani, we have two political horses; one led by Hon. Kawaya and the other
led by Hon. Kalonzo." He drew a stark contrast between the two, noting
that in the last election, Kawaya led the Kamba people to the government, while
Kalonzo led them to the opposition. Mbai's pronouncement of Hon. Kawaya as the
new "Kamba Kingpin" and "he who must be listened to" was a
powerful declaration of a new guard rising to lead the community.
The impressive attendance
of key political figures further solidified the significance of the event.
Among those present were Hon. Anastacia (Mtoto Wa Yatta)-the UDA aspirant for
Yatta MP, Hon. Rachael Kaki of Kitui South, Hon. Fabian Kyule of Kangundo, and
Ndilo of the Machakos Assembly, along with a host of MCAs and other
dignitaries. The presence of these leaders, all rallied behind Hon. Kawaya's
vision, painted a clear picture of a united front determined to usher in a new
era of development and prosperity for the people of Ukambani, free from the
shackles of old-school, oppositional politics. The boda-boda riders, who had
come in their thousands, left the grounds not just with a sense of empowerment
but with a renewed sense of hope for a future where their hard work translates
into real progress and a seat at the table of power.
